The Czech Republic has pretty well become famous with its glass and the production of crystal, crystal chandeliers, lights, table and wall lamps and lamps on stands. The fenomenon of manufacturing lies primarily in the long tradition of production in the deep past.
Crystal chandeliers may most of all bring to the fore the beauty of crystal. Skilful Czech professionals noticed this, therefore many a royal palace today is still decorated with chandeliers by Czech professionals even centuries old.
By the mid 18th century, owing to its quality and design, the Czech chandeliers had gained massive popularity and thus infulenced later development and style of chandeliers all over the world. Czech crystal chandeliers were very much sought for. Original Czech crystal was unleaded. It excelled in clear undistorted refraction, clearness and beauty of cut planes.
When it was found out that an addition of PbO2 improves optic features, leaded crystal emerged and spread all over the world. In 1724 the glass cutter Josef Palme from the town of Prácheò was granted a royal permission to construct glass chandeliers. Thus, in a small village, a workshop was opened where chandeliers were manufactured. The palaces of King Luise XV, the Austrian Empress Marie Terezie and the Russian Tsarina Elisabeth were among those Palme´s original chandeliers impressed its originality seal upon.
